No need to spend an arm and leg at restaurants that claim to be health conscious and still cut your health short with these organic homemade burger patties. People actually pay restaurants to poison them, it really doesn’t make any sense to me. Anyhow, burgers are one of those classic American foods that to me are so delicious but with a couple additions, the flavor is even more amazing than restaurant burgers, and so inexpensive to make at home for a meal or for barbecue parties. Speaking of barbecue parties, I’m sure many of you are having gatherings or camping events over this Labor Day Weekend. This burger is perfect for just that.
Where’s the bread you ask? I generally serve our burgers without bread on salad of some sort because unless I bake our bread I don’t like to purchase bread from the store. Organic, gluten-free or not, I find that breads in the store are always laden with something toxic and not prepared properly. In addition they contain high levels of heavy metals in gluten free breads. I find that a burger patty on top of a delicious salad with my Organic Baked Cubed Fries is totally satisfying. If you want bread for your burgers I recommend you make your own grain-free bun. You can also use lettuce bread, AKA lettuce leaves to put your burger in.
Be sure to find quality organic grass fed ground beef or lamb. Be sure to ask if the animal was grass finished as well because many animal meats sold as organic and grass fed are actually not grass finished. When they are grain finished they fed corn and soy to fatten them up. The animals don’t need this and neither do we. In addition, ask if the grass the animals are pasturing on is organic and free of harmful chemicals pesticides and herbicides. The last most detailed question to ask is whether the land the animals are pasturing on was ever sprayed with chemicals or grown with GMO seeds. You will find that the last two questions will be difficult for regular grocery store workers to answer. That’s why you should purchase your meat from a farmer where you can know your food is as clean as you can get. Generally, butcher shops these days also do a great job of sourcing high quality meats with these standards for human consumption.
DO NOT PURCHASE THE LOWEST FAT CONTENT MEATS. If you are cooking meat especially on a barbecue grill or over the fire you want fat. The fat is what prevents the meat from burning and becoming carcinogenic. So in general purchase meat that has been ground up straight from the animal with its fat. This way you will know you have meat with a proper composition when put under heat. Our ancestors knew this but modern society has lost this knowledge.
Now that we’ve had our meat chat let’s talk cooking, shall we! A little bit of grated onions in burgers goes a long way to add a much more balanced yet complex flavor to the meat. A little salt and pepper, and my homemade mustard or a quality dijon mustard that is made with apple cider vinegar (regular vinegar kills gut bacteria) for some more flavor. Lastly, you’ll need one delicious pastured raised organic egg to give the burger a little softening texture as well as fill in the gaps of the burger. Throw it all in a bowl, mix it well with your hands and make patties to your desired size.
You can cook these organic homemade burger patties anywhere and enjoy it with some fries. You can broil it, bake it, in a pan over the stove, on the grill, over fire. Keep your meat a little pink in the center for your health and enjoy these super easy and nutritious burgers. Have a blast with family and friends this weekend and grill up these burgers to preserve your traditions and your health!
