Here are 5 Tips for a Healthy Halloween and Recipe Roundup that my husband and I have figured out in order to enjoy Halloween with our children. We both thought we wouldn’t let our children participate in Halloween for many reasons. However, we have figured out several ways in which we can feel good about allowing our children to participate in and enjoy Halloween and still maintain the integrity of our beliefs. I wanted to share what we have put into practice and found works for us, as well as some Halloween table recipes that will keep good health in order on this holiday.
5 Tips for Maintaining Health and Integrity During Halloween
1. Trick-or-Treating: Let’s face it Trick-or-Treating, to an organic real whole foods family, is the epitome of food death! Every unknown doorstep would face our family with unwanted and dangerous sugars, GMO’s, and toxic ingredients. We just did not feel right about our children going door to door collecting candies that they would NOT be allowed to eat.
Well along came my dear friend Angela who also had the same dilemma with her children. She decided to host Halloween at her home and we were invited. It was a fantastic and super fun experience for everyone and has become a tradition. In addition there is only organic foods and treats that the families have made themselves for this very reason.
So instead of your children going door to door, have a party at home or at friends/families that you are aligned with regarding food. Then no one has to argue, everyone will have fun, and no ones health will be compromised.
2. Dark energy: Halloween does have a dark energy to it, and with that is also the element in which many children are walking on their own without parents or guardians in the night. Unfortunately, this is the perfect scenario for kidnappings and other heinous acts.
By participating in a family oriented party that is centered around clean food and treats, loving families and friends, as well as mindful eyes that maintain the protection of children, this can all be avoided.
3. Toxic Make-up: Avoid colored hair-sprays and toxic make-ups completely. They are full of harmful dyes, chemicals, and toxins that enter the blood stream and the body via skin pores. Either use organic and truly clean make-up products, or even make your own make-up products using vegetables as color dye. Try to come up with costumes that don’t need any make-up if possible, otherwise choose very clean alternatives.
4. Protein before sugar: Eating a meal rich is vegetable and/or animal proteins is extremely wise before embarking on an organic sugar journey for the day of Halloween, especially for children. Protein helps to stabilize sugar levels to avoid crash and burn scenarios so that fun can be had for hours and hours, without any sugar roller coaster rides.
5. Be Thrifty: Whether children or adults, don’t waste your money on expensive or brand new costume gear. Be thrifty and go to second hand children’s stores, thrift stores, or even garage sales to find well kept costume gear for a fraction of the price. The costume will likely only be worn for a few hours and then done for, so why waste your hard earned money on expensive costume apparel.
Whether sewing costumes or purchasing them, give yourself plenty of time in advance to put together a thrifty and yet awesome costume. If you wait until the last minute it is likely you will invest way too much money.
