For me, anytime is a good time for Organic Guacamole! Come on, who doesn’t like Guacamole? Even when the cooler months arrive and I crave predominantly warm foods, guacamole is always a welcome addition to my plate and palate.
My mom discovered avocados once she moved to the states. Then, they became a big part of her vegetarian diet, and as a result a large part of mine as well. I have always loved avocados, I couldn’t imagine a day without them. And yes, if you’ve been reading this blog you will always hear me write about my love affair with avocados. They are a perfect food and balance sweet and earthy flavors with ease.
Guacamole is one of those foods you put on top of many dishes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and you can eat it as a snack all on its own. I love the versatility of meals that guacamole adds and provides in nourishing a healthy diet and in turn a healthy body.
This is the recipe for guacamole that I grew up on. Just a little tweak here and there. This guacamole keeps very well in the refrigerator for days without browning. The key is the lemon juice. Not only is the lemon juice an essential ingredient and flavor in guacamole, but the citric acid in lemon juice prevents/slows the avocado from browning. Therefore, you can prepare this Organic Guacamole for a gathering in advance and not worry about it browning. You could just make it for yourself and/or your family for the week to enjoy. I like my guacamole chunky like you see here, but if you like your guacamole smooth you can just throw all these ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until you get a desired consistency. Easy.
Eat it with cut up organic veggies or organic coconut oil tortilla chips free of other ingredients. So yummy! My daughter is a guacamole lover as well. She is a professional dipper! When you expose your children to bold flavors when they are very young then as they grow their palate will generally enjoy bolder flavors, and a broader pleasure for the many flavors that exist; sweet, salty, bitter, sour, pungent, and astringent. In addition, making fun and delicious snacky foods that kids can eat with their hands tend to win their hearts. Guacamole fits that purpose perfectly.
Finally, don’t be afraid to eat raw onions of all sorts. In a fully flavored guacamole you’ve got to add green onions! If you’re not an onion eater guacamole is a great place to start. Just add a little bit more each time you make a batch of guacamole and your palate will begin to enjoy the taste. In addition, the health benefits that we receive from eating raw onions is enormous from immunity to anti-inflammatory effects, to preventing blood clots and healthier hair and nails.
So dip in and make guacamole a regular part of your diet and gatherings. I guarantee it will be a favorite!
