Organic Walnut Crust Chocolate Pie! Did your ears perk up? This pie is completely raw, vegan, and awesome for celebrations. I love walnuts and chocolate so I consider this a perfect pair, I hope you do to.
Raw walnuts that are properly prepared are essential for this pie crust. All nuts and seeds should always be soaked with salt for about 8 hours then dehydrated at no more than 114°F to revive their crunchy state. The process of soaking releases any anti-nutrients and enzyme inhibitors that can make nuts hard to digest and allows the human body to render full nutritional value of the nut. Source high quality raw organic nuts that are NOT steam processed, otherwise they are not really raw. I purchase mine in bulk from Azure Standard but you can search online to find your particular source.
There is avocado’s in this recipe, they are just hidden in all that amazing chocolate! Avocados are wonderful for making raw desserts in addition to the fact that the fat helps the body digest sugars (unrefined or not) slowly so you don’t get a blood sugar spike as intense or at all. Protein does the same thing, so be sure to eat some beautiful veggies and protein before this pie and that will also help the body more easily digest the sugar. On a side note, if you enjoy avocados as much as I do check out my Organic Guacamole recipe here.
Setting the pie in the freezer forms all the ingredients so that when you cut slices they will maintain their shape. Pretty simple. Once the pie is set it’s important to keep it in the refrigerator until you’re literally ready to serve. I wouldn’t recommend taking this pie far away from a refrigerator, otherwise it will just turn into a goey blob once you’re ready to slice. Keep that in mind.
To decorate this recipe with fruit is my absolute pleasure. What other way to incorporate some real foods that are delicious, sweet, and beautiful. Get creative with what fruits you put on. I would recommend that when you wash your fruits or if you’re using juicy fruits to let them sit on a wood cutting board to dry out a little before decorating the pie. This will keep water and liquid off the pie. If you’re going to keep this pie in your household for a few days I wouldn’t recommend putting the fruit on, just serve fresh fruit whenever you enjoy slices because the fruit will get soggy sitting in the refrigerator for days.
Any day can be a celebration, not just holidays and birthdays. Try to be prudent and have small slices for your health! I am a Mother after all! Enjoy this pie with those you love and celebrate life!
