One of the quintessential characters of Halloween is the witch and her broomstick. These Organic Halloween Cheese Broomsticks are yummy, easy to make, and super fun to look at. Halloween is definitely about treats, and it can also be about sugar free foods inspired by witches! After all witches balance on their broomsticks in flight, so their inspiration gives us some wisdom to follow when it comes to balance and how we consume foods.
Balancing sugar with vegetables and proteins on Halloween or any other day where sugar is present is very important for our health and how we feel. Whether that sugar is organic, conventional, or even in the form of dates, fruits, etc. Foods on Halloween that are not treats, are crucial so everyone isn’t over dosing on sugar that day.
We don’t eat too much cheese around our house and usually when we do it’s raw and/or well aged. Avoiding pasteurized and homogenized milks is a wise practice. However, sometimes for one day you can make a healthy exception; organic mozzarella string cheese. You can make your own but if you’re pressed on time you can pick some up at the store. Be sure when you pick up a packet at the store that you read the label and look for very simple ingredients you can recognize: organic milk, the culture, rennet, and high quality salt. Anything else is unnecessary.
If you’re making these cheese broomsticks for just a few people then one package of string cheese will be just fine, otherwise I would definitely recommend two or more packages. In addition you will likely have little hands reaching over the counter to snag some cheese to snack on! Make these broomsticks the day before the party so you have time to work calmly and do a good job. Even with something as easy as this, if you are rushing, chances are you will have many mistakes.
