Create this Organic Chia Seed Porridge Bowl which is sugar free and packed with protein! I love this breakfast because it’s versatile, quick, nutritious, and an easy clean up since I’m a busy Mama. Additionally, I don’t always care for animal products in the morning and it is an easy way to correctly and efficiently incorporate any adaptogenic herbs, though optional.
In order to unlock the full nutritional benefits that chia seeds provide you have one of two options in preparing them properly. Be sure to either soak them in water to create a wet gelatinous texture or grind them with a coffee grinder in order to maintain their dry crunchy consistency. Chia seeds soaked in water creates a gelatinous fiber that fills the gut and benefits the intestines which aids in easy bowel movements.
For this recipe, I use soaked chia seeds. In a half gallon mason jar pour in 1 cup of chia seeds and follow with filling up the jar with filtered water. Cover and shake well. Store on the counter for 8 hours or overnight, then place in the refrigerator to keep for up to one week and use as needed.
The add-in’s to this porridge are the most noteworthy with endless possibilities! First of all I love to put in a little bit of organic homemade almond milk, as the fat helps render the nutrition from the adaptogenic herbs I enjoy in this meal. I particularly enjoy adding the 7 Treasures mix and Maca adaptogenic herbs for their flavor while also taking care of some of my physical imbalances. Additionally, I enjoy putting in a dash of cinnamon, a handful of shredded coconut, hemp seeds, walnuts, ground/roasted sesame seeds, and some fresh berries I have on hand.
Eat this porridge either cold or warm. Since we want to keep this meal RAW in nature, if warming the chia porridge, put on very low heat for a few minutes without all the add-ins. Choose the preparation method that fits your body best.
To your health!
